I was
born in Nova Scotia, but grew up in Smiths Falls
Ontario in Canada. I have three brothers, two older
and one younger. My parents are loving, sweet and
accommodating people. Like most people, I had my
issues growing up but learned quickly that I
thought differently than most others. I had an
insatiable appetite for knowledge and the
expression of my potential. I ventured out into the
world, searching for a greater human experience and
to find my place within it. I met Adam at the
Chiropractic Seminar Dynamic Essentials in Toronto
Canada at the age of 21. He was working in his busy
practice in London, England, and I was working as a
Chiropractic Assistant in Kingston, Ontario Canada
at the time. There was instantly magic between us,
and we dated casually and long distance while I
attended college in Thunder Bay until our marriage
in 2004.
Up until several years ago, my life’s aspiration was to become a Chiropractor. Moving and children had taken over for a while. During the first trimester of my pregnancy with Jana I was researching to piece together the “ideal” pre-natal diet and came across a concept that I hadn’t heard of before. As I was becoming more self-educated about nutrition and food in general, I came across various websites and then books that introduced me to the raw food movement.
Although Adam and I were already vegan and ate a large amount and variety of fresh foods, we were not fully aware of the benefits of eating raw, and the detriment of consuming cooked foods due to the killing of all enzymes in the food during the heating process. About 18 months later during my second pregnancy with our twins, I ventured to Fort Bragg, California about 200 miles North of San Francisco on the Mendocino county coast. I graduated from the Living Light Institute, the premiere raw vegan culinary college in the world.
I am now a certified raw vegan chef and chef instructor. The culinary art and philosophy of raw foods has become my passion. After the birth of our twins this skill became very useful for raising and feeding our children. We feel that they are getting the very best nutrition life has to offer and we continue to incorporate our practices into their lives. I aspire to continue to develop my company Empress Organics and to bring my vegan, hemp milk based infant and toddler formulas to the open market. In addition I aspire to coach women and families through vegan and raw pregnancies helping them incorporate and enjoy the advantages of a living food lifestyle.
