Introduction to Raw Vegan Foods-
To introduce oneself into any philosophy or discipline should be an evolution, a process. One of the biggest mistakes is to dive in to something that you have not educated yourself about yet. Once one has made a decision to go down a path, one should continue to educate oneself to continue to affirm one’s wise choice.
There are a few principles to illustrate the immense health benefits of consuming living foods. In summary they are:
1) Retention of enzymatic qualities in uncooked foods increases the efficiency of digestion and retains a greater energetic and immune potential of the body
2) Foods retaining their natural enzymes help break down the food and so lead to easier digestion, absorption and elimination
3) The body can waste from 40 up to 65% of its daily caloric intake fueling the processes necessary to digest a diet of cooked foods. Foods that retain their enzymes use only up to about half as much energy to digest. Imagine what your body could do with all that extra energy!

Raising Vegan and Raw Vegan Children
I am often asked “okay, but what do you feed your kids then?” The answer is simple, what WE eat! With all of our children I was only able to produce about half of the breast milk they required so supplementation was necessary. They all started on breast milk and a raw vegan formula and then graduated the way most children do to solid foods. The twins are currently eating two or three meals a day plus their hemp milk formula. I make all of my children’s food from scratch. The twins love apples, pears and mango which I puree for them and then add a bit of hot water to warm up. We also give them millet at night, which helps to settle them in. Jana has always been a savory kid and thus is more challenging on this type of diet. Living food in its essence is simple – see an apple, eat it. But if you have a kid who isn’t into fruit what do you do? Jana loves sprouted, marinated seeds and nuts mixes. She loves greens! So I give her a green shake everyday. She also loves crispy kale, which is marinated and dehydrated kale with Shoyu and lime.
